Bats
A dark, abandoned room. Its door sealed and locked shut. Lost but not forgotten.
It’s there and needs attention, you know that — but you go on with your life, “someday I will take a look.”
The longer the room goes unattended, the danker it becomes. Certain creatures, who thrive in such environments, move in — unwanted creatures.
More time passes still, until the silent rumblings from that forgotten room become impossible ignore.
You decide to take a look. You have an eery sense of what’s on the other side of the door. You have no choice but to open it now, your life can’t continue otherwise.
You work up the courage and put the key in the lock. Click. The switch of the lock turns.
Heart pounding, full of resolve, you grip the doorknob and begin to turn it.
What’s going to happen? What will you see?
You slowly open the door, inch by inch. Guarding yourself, you fling the door all the way open.
The light streams in. Black bats screech and rush towards it, flying past your head, leaving you petrified…
In such moments, we are wise to let the room adjust to the light and fresh air and to let all the creatures disperse of their own accord. They are not out to harm you — it’s just that they no longer can survive in the new environment. They, too, are afraid. Remember that.
Now it’s time to sweep, scrub, and wonder why you paid so little attention to this very important room.
With a little elbow grease and determination, it can, will, and must be remade again new — perhaps, becoming the best room in the house.
That’s the beauty of transformation.
