Know Myself

“ … when I must lead you into a different path than the one you expect,
I carry you in my arms.” — Sathya Sai Baba

We think we know what’s best for us. We don’t. A very few get small glimpses.

What is, is best because there is nothing else. Whatever is happening right here and now is what’s best, whatever that looks like for you. And it may not be pretty.

Many of us have robust egos and a well-developed “I,” which say, “I want this, I want that.” Attachments get formed. Expectations take hold.

When what is is at odds with what we want, this is what we call a problem.

Stress results. Frustration. Depression. Rage. Anxiety. All are there to help point us back to the truth, no different than the guard rails on a winding road.

When we start brushing up against these emotions it means: I am out of harmony with the universal will. It’s time for me to stop and make adjustments.

Unless we want to continue to suffer, of course — and some do. There can be a type of comfort found in it.

We are like children in the sense that the amount we don’t know far outweighs what we do know. This is known and so we are only given as much as we can handle.

If you find yourself fighting against what is, it’s an invitation to start practicing. Meditation. Medicine, of the traditional kind. Sharing with an expert. Breathing. Yoga. Walking.

Eventually, to understand that we don’t know what’s best and that when we are traversing places we’d rather not be, we can still maintain equanimity; serve; love; and be a light unto this world.

Happy and sad are fleeting. Atonement (“at one ment”) with Self — that can’t be taken away by anything. 🙏🏻
