“Man IS a soul, and HAS a body.”
— Paramahansa Yogananda
The benefit of life in a relative reality, such as the one we occupy, is that we get to know the difference between this and that, or the play of so-called opposites.
It’s how we learn and evolve. By feeling the sting of what doesn’t work and making adjustments.
You can’t have good without bad. You can’t have joy without sorrow. You can’t have riches without scarcity. And on and on it goes.
Opposites are defined by one another and it’s truly difficult to know where one pole ends and the other begins.
You can look at world events and generally classify them as “bad” and receive near universal agreement from any ideologue from any faction.
But bad relative to what? And how can you really know?
As we talked about recently, you don’t know what’s best. What is, is best. That is moving beyond opposites and merging with the way things are, where there are no labels — and abiding peace to be found.
Typically, today’s sorrow is the setup for tomorrow’s joy. Things go up and down, they expand and contract, with or without our say. In so many ways, we are like passengers on a ship being captained by forces beyond our control.
What use is it yelling at the Captain?
This understanding does not mean we become passive. Not at all. It means we can now act with dispassion and detachment from the fruits of our efforts. We work for its own sake because it’s what we feel called to do.
If work feels like stress, your instrument is out of tune and the disharmonic tones are trying to let you know.
Life, in the flow, should feel effortless with a subtle current of enjoyment, no matter what is happening around you or in the world.
What you see with your two eyes is a movie. It’s not real but we experience all the feelings of the drama as if they were.
Pull back, friends. Question if the food you are feeding yourself is serving you — that includes information, people, and activity.
This is an area where you can exert some control and change the course.
What do you want? What do you really want?
Do you have an answer? Good answers to the question will often have lifelong commitments attached and perhaps, even, the willingness to die for a cause. Let’s not be lukewarm.
You are a creative being here to share your gifts, learn, and leave with honor.
Be mindful of getting too distracted or too busy or too entertained that you stop feeling what it’s like to be human.
What a glorious you, you are. 🙏🏻
